The topic I & my partner selected was the Hmong Veteran Bill. We chose this topic because it is meant to let people know about Hmong history. The veterans who saved the Hmong should be recognized just like any other US veteran because they had also fought for their lives with the US. This topic broke a barrier by showing fairness and equality to the Hmong people. Because of this new bill, more Hmong families are able to have different benefits and don’t have to live a hard life. The bill’s benefits include education grants, financial aid, and funeral honors.

We mostly did most of our work on paper. Then we each share information about what we found and what needs to have more info. Most questions contain what happened after the war and what is included in the bill. There’s a small amount of info on the new bill since it was announced in 2018, so we hope to gain more info this year. There were plenty of websites and articles that shared info of what the bill could do and why we should honor the Hmong veterans. There were books about the Vietnam war and how it affected the Hmong.

Since we decided to do a website, we hope to go from the reason for what the bill will do and how it could help the Hmong community. Then we listed pictures and facts about different people’s views on the bill. I hope to get a small interview with one Hmong veteran and get their opinion. Finally, we’ll give the history of what happened after the war and what kind of effects this bill can change in the US.

This topic fits this year’s theme because it shows that the Hmong community can grow and that there is equality between the Hmong and Americans. The barrier that was broken was that the Hmong veterans were finally recognized as a US veteran. The soldiers who lost their lives to save their families will not go in vain. The Hmong community can grow to be known and recognized.
