The Bill

On October 15th, 2019, state rep, Jennifer Shilling of lacrosse proposed a bill, The Hmong Veteran Bill. This bill gave Hmong veterans, who had served in the secret war, obtain the same benefits as an American veteran. Things like education grants, financial aid, and funeral honors. after 40 years Hmong veterans finally get the regulation by what they did, what they sacrifice, and what they fought for. This bill will help so many families in need, it could also largen the Hmong community.

“Hmong soldiers experienced the same atrocities of war as the U.S. military and deserve the same recognition and assistance.”- Mary Kalar

"They are interested in making sure that we can change the definition of Wisconsin benefits and veterans to include this language,"

-Jennifer Shilling

Shilling thought it felt needed to announce this bill. That it would make it fair for Hmong soldiers, who had fought beside the CIA in the secret war should be finalized as an American veteran. Because of this bill, this would change the definition of American veterans.
